Giving Children Wings Therapy Centres South Africa
Reading and concentration centres founded by an occupational therapist, in six provinces
About
Giving Children Wings runs reading centres for children with reading and concentration difficulties. It was founded by occupational therapist Engela van der Heever-Greyling (B.Occ.Therapy, University of Pretoria, 2009), who has a special interest in sensory integration, and the programme was developed with speech, hearing, physio, educational and play therapists. Each child starts with a full evaluation of reading level and problem areas. One-on-one sessions combine occupational therapy techniques for perceptual development and movement with remedial reading techniques and basic language skills, moving from pre-reading skills to reading with comprehension. Sessions include concentration activities, eye movement exercises, sight words and brainwave stimulation. Branches also offer study method training and, at some branches, maths and science tutoring.
