About
Irlen-FlinkDink in Polokwane is run by Marietha Nel, a certified Irlen diagnostician who has trained since 2019 under Martelean Venter, the first Irlen diagnostician in South Africa. Marietha works mainly in Limpopo. Irlen syndrome is a perceptual processing difficulty: it is not an optical problem, but affects how the brain processes visual information. It can affect reading, writing, copying, maths, reading music, attention, concentration and depth perception. Signs include skipping words or lines, slow or hesitant reading, misreading words, headaches, strain or watery eyes while reading, and print that looks indistinct or a background that seems too bright. The Irlen Method is non-invasive and uses coloured overlays and tinted lenses (glasses) to support visual processing.
